Publishing Programs

Albanika Press organizes its publishing work through clearly defined programs and imprints, each guided by a distinct editorial purpose. This structure allows the press to remain focused while supporting a range of books that differ in audience, form, and historical context. Across all programs, Albanika Press applies the same standards of care, selectivity, and long-term responsibility.

Our publishing programs are not driven by genre trends or production schedules. Each program reflects a commitment to the work it supports and the readers it serves.

Mesagjeritë Shqiptare

Translation and Cultural Preservation

Mesagjeritë Shqiptare is the imprint under which Albanika Press publishes works of literary translation and cultural preservation, with an initial focus on Albanian authors whose voices and histories merit renewed attention.

The imprint takes its name from the publishing house founded in 1943 by Musine Kokalari and her brothers, Mumtaz and Vesim — a press silenced, along with Kokalari herself, under Albania's communist regime. Reviving the name is an act of remembrance as much as publishing.

Books published under Mesagjeritë Shqiptare are selected for their literary significance, historical importance, and enduring relevance. The imprint approaches translation as a careful editorial practice—one that respects the original text while making it accessible to new readers. Each project is developed with attention to context, accuracy, and the responsibilities inherent in bringing historically situated works into the present.

Editorial focus includes:

  • Literary prose, memoir, and essays

  • Estate-managed and foundation-supported works

  • Editions with contextual or scholarly material when appropriate

The program begins with Old Neno's Stories, an illustrated English-language edition of Musine Kokalari's early prose — the first translation of her work into English.

Slim Shady

Original Illustrated Stories for Children

Slim Shady is the imprint dedicated to original illustrated books for children and young readers. These stories are designed to engage emotional understanding, empathy, and reflection, rather than spectacle or instruction. The imprint began with The Story of Slim Shady and may expand over time to include additional titles that share its quiet, thoughtful approach to storytelling.

Books published under the Slim Shady imprint emphasize illustration as an integral part of narrative, not decoration. Visual pacing, restraint, and emotional clarity are central considerations in every project. The imprint treats young readers as attentive and capable, offering stories that invite reflection and connection without simplification or excess.
